Niger - On Assignment

Film

For this assignment, we were traveling during a month, documenting the health situation of young mothers and children of local communities, mainly Hausa and Djerma-Songhai. My role in the film was in development, second camera and assistant producer, conducting the research about the current situation -going through scientific and medical publications-, crafting and developing the narrative of the story, and arranging the logistic of the filming -managing relationships with fixers, local contacts, and contributors-.

On location, I was also in charge of a separate photo report, exhibited in Niger and Spain. The outcome was a complete success, as we managed to find invaluable testimonies and witness the daily life of Nigerien women, gaining access to celebrations normally closed to strangers. I learned not only to film under difficult conditions and adapt to unstable environments but also to build strong relationships with contributors and fixers in a short space of time.
